How did the remember the forced labour in Norway?

There is one thing that the Czech forcibly displaced labourers remember and underline in their writings and talks, and that is the warm og friendly relationship with the Norwegian inhabitants. Quite a few exchanged letters with their Norwegian friends after the war. In the 1980s, when they started reaching their age of retirement, they startet organize gatherings calling themselves „NORACI“.

After 1989 the frequence of gatherings increased. They took place every year, often at the Rozkoš-dam and later in Havlíčkuv Brod. More than fifty of the previous forced workers joined together with their families. Even the Norwegian Embassy was invited. The meetings always started with a Christian service lead by the Catholic priest Josef Prášek, who also had been sent to Norway on forced labour as a young theologian together with three colleagues. For the jubileum meeting in 2000 the Norwegian Ambassador and the Norwegian military attaché were also present.

The last gathering of the Noráci took place i 2005 in Havlíčkuv Brod when the forced labourers had reached 80.
